Glossary of terms used

Evaluation Date Refers to the date that the evaluation took place.
Evaluators Refers to the members of the Evaluation Committee present on site at the time of evaluation.
Committee Summary Refers to the key comments made by the Evaluation Committee on site at the time of evaluation.
Container Size Refers to the size and type of container at planting only. AP refers to an Air Pruned container.
Planting Date Refers to the date of planting. Occasionally, where data is not available, a season will be referred to, eg Winter, 2000.
Foliage Length Refers to the average length of foliage at the time of evaluation.
Foliage Width Refers to the average width of foliage at the time of evaluation.
Foliage Density Refers to the density of foliage at the time of evaluation.

Foliage Colour Refers to the colour of foliage at the time of evaluation.
Tree Height Refers to the estimated height of the tree at the time of evaluation.
Tree Width Refers to the estimated width of the tree at the time of evaluation.
Caliper Refers to the caliper of the tree 30 cm above ground level at the time of evaluation.
Self Supporting Refers to whether or not the tree is staked and tied. A section including relevant details may be included.
Visible Root Occurrence Refers to any visible root occurrence at the time of evaluation.
Visible Pests and Diseases Refers to any visible pests and diseases present at the time of evaluation.
Maintenance Requirements Refers to comments made by the Evaluation Committee regarding suggested maintenance.
Management Inputs Refers to any management inputs that have taken place on site. This data may not always be entirely complete or accurate.
Limb Structure Refers the state, formation and integrity of the limb structure at the time of evaluation.
Soil Type Describes the type of soil observed at the site.
  • Anthroposol
    Any soil profile that is the result of human activity.
  • Heavy Clay
    Smooth plastic cast that can be moulded into rods without fracture. Forms a ribbon at least 75 mm long.
  • Light Clay
    Smooth plastic cast, slight resistance to shearing between thumb and forefinger, forms a ribbon 50 - 75 mm long.
  • Clay Loam
    Forms a cast with a spongy feel, plastic when squeezed through thumb and forefinger. Smooth to manipulate, will form a ribbon 40 - 50 mm long.
  • Loam
    Forms a cast with a spongy feel but with no obvious sandiness or silkiness. Forms a ribbon about 25 mm.
  • Sandy Loam
    Forms a fragile cast and a ribbon of up to 15 - 25 mm. Individual sand grains can be seen and felt.
  • Sand
    No ribbon formed, cannot be moulded. Single grains visible.
