Boolarra Railway Park, Boolarra.
Latrobe City Council - Latrobe Valley

Evaluation 3

Evaluation Date:13 Jun, 2012.
Evaluators:Claudia Green.
Committee Summary:All three trees in this planting cluster are very consistent in height and shape and must have provided a beautiful autumn display. As with the other trees in this park they have been well mulched and pruned quite recently. This park obviously receives considerable care as all trees are being well looked after.
Management Inputs:Significant pruning and mulching.
Maintenance Requirements:None at this time.

Evaluation 2

Evaluation Date:6 Nov, 2008.
Evaluators:Gary Peters and Leanne Gillies.
Committee Summary:These trees are performing well. The foliage colour is good, although the yellow of the variegation is not as prominent as expected, this may be due to the time of the year. There is a very small amount of fruit on the trees.
Management Inputs:Trees are well mulched, possibly a bit too well.
Maintenance Requirements:None.

Evaluation 1

Evaluation Date:17 Feb, 2003.
Evaluators:Paul Goodison, Ian Rogers, Michael Smith.
Committee Summary:Noted at this site as a well-formed tree that is capable of performing well under dry conditions without supplementary irrigation. Extension growth of 40 cm was observed, as was the healthy scorch free foliage. Successful establishment has been achieved with minimal input from council staff. The requirement for ample space to develop was also noted.
Container Size:41 cm.
Planting Date:Winter, 1998.
Management Inputs:None since planting.
Maintenance Requirements:None urgent, mulch would be beneficial.

Hawkstowe Park
South Morang (Hawkstowe Park), Melbourne

Evaluation 4

Evaluation Date:21 Nov, 2012.
Evaluators:Claudia Green.
Committee Summary:As with the L. styraciflua 'Parasol' specimens, these trees are very slow to establish and grow due to the difficult, dry and wind exposed conditions on this hilltop. They are showing reasonable foliage cover and some of the typical gold speckling of the leaves.
Management Inputs:Fresh mulch.

Evaluation 3

Evaluation Date:4 Apr, 2007.
Evaluators:Ian Brown, Nick Archer.
Committee Summary:As with the 'Parasol' this cultivar is growing in particularly harsh conditions for the species. Caliper growth has increased, however as observed previously the cultivars positioning and prolonged drought has impacted on these trees.
Container Size:50 cm.
Planting Date:June, 2000.
Maintenance Requirements:Mulching.

Evaluation 2

Evaluation Date:2 Feb, 2004.
Evaluators:Nick Archer, Mick Dalton, Tim Hart.
Committee Summary:Prolonged drought at this site had caused branches to die back and had also reduced the overall growth rate. Form and density have been retained.
Maintenance Requirements:Additional mulch to improve surrounding soil. Further irrigation would be valuable. Formative pruning.

Evaluation 1

Evaluation Date:9 Sep, 2002.
Evaluators:Nick Archer, Stewart Campbell, Paul Goodison, Meg Jones, Michael Smith, Mike Smith.
Committee Summary:This Liquidambar cultivar was observed to be performing very well in the dry, exposed position where it was sited. Noted to be one of the more hardy variegated cultivars available. The uniform branch structure was also noted, as was the requirement of sufficient space for successful use.
Container Size:50 cm.
Planting Date:June, 2000.
Management Inputs:None.
Maintenance Requirements:Mulch would be beneficial.
